There's a long history of student protest in the US that has changed the course of historical events. Students have a constitutional right to express political speech.
Students carry out acts of civil disobedience with the awareness that they risk consequences. The power of this type of action is the participants’ resolve to take a risk, and to do so publicly.
Unfortunately, at times, school and law enforcement authorities violate student civil liberties through excessive enforcement, arbitrary discipline, and even violence. This is unacceptable.
Freedom of speech and the right to assembly are guaranteed to all people by the First Amendment.
The right of student political speech in public schools was affirmed by the US Supreme Court in 1969, as long as it is not "materially and substantially disruptive." Public school officials may exact disciplinary procedures for student walkouts, however they may not arbitrarily enact harsher punishments for political walkouts beyond what the written school code would allow for any other type of walkout.
Law enforcement may follow normal procedures when enforcing laws and ordinances, however, they may not act with arbitrary aggression towards marchers, nor detain juveniles for longer than is standard procedure for their political speech. To do so is assault, and denial of rights under the color of law,
The Quakertown students arrested on Friday are still in custody, despite that "rarely in Bucks County are juveniles charged with crimes held in custody until a detention hearing and it is typically only for serious charges.” (PhillyBurbs.com)

RELEASE THE QUAKERTOWN STUDENTS!
How does a peaceful protest end up like this? Public high school students have 1st amendment rights.
Quakertown High School students conducted an act of peaceful civil disobedience by walking out of school to protest ICE yesterday. Then they appear to have been aggressively assaulted by a man in plain clothes, later identified as the Chief of Police.
Yes, the school is responsible for student safety. An appropriate school response would be to enact the same discipline for students walking out in protest as they would for students walking out to get hoagies at Wawa. Any more than that is a violation of student civil liberties and freedom of political speech.
Yes, the police are responsible for public safety, and are within their jurisdiction to monitor and guide protesters away from the street. Any more than that is a violation of civil liberties and freedom of assembly.
We want answers to these questions:
• Did the man in plain clothes identify himself as law enforcement?
• On what grounds did he assault a group of peaceful students?
• Did the police make any attempt at deescalation?
• What are the arrested students charged with?
• Why are they still in detention over 24 hours later?
• When will they be released?
